The first of two non-official test matches takes place when Japan XV take on the Maori XV team in Tokyo. The home side is a combination on test and Japan league one players. Coach Eddie Jones has selected the team with an eye for the future while the Maori team is an experienced team with plenty of Super Rugby experience. Both teams will be looking to play attacking rugby so we can expect to see plenty of tries. Japan will need to improve on their set piece as they were destroyed in the scrums last week by England. If the Maori team can find their combinations early in the game, then they should win convincingly.
TIP: The Maori team has many players that will have a point to prove after being snubbed by the All Blacks selectors. Quinn Tupaea in particular will feel hard done by as he had a fairly decent Super Rugby campaign after coming back from a long-term injury. The home side will be looking to get their big number eight Amanaki Saumaki into the game as much as possible as he can get them over the advantage line with his powerful carries. The Maori will need their flyhalf Rivez Reihana to link up their potent backline that includes threats like wingers Josh Moorby and Bailyn Sullivan. Japan will need a fast start as playing catch up rugby with the Maori is a recipe for disaster. I am predicting an away win by 20 points.
