1X2 Tips for Today
Moana Pasifika vs Waratahs
Tip 1: Moana to win
Reason for the tip: Moana are back on their home patch as they play host to the Waratahs. The home side played arguably their best 80 minutes of rugby since joining the competition last week when they beat the Crusaders in Christchurch. They were superb in attack and more importantly, defensively they were brilliant. It was a far cry from the team that had been shipping points for free. The Waratahs on the other hand will be looking for a massive improvement after they conceded the 57 points in their defeat to the Hurricanes.
The Aussie side have been flawless at home, winning all four of their matches but have lost their two games on the road. Moana will be aware of this fact and will want to put them under pressure from the start. The return of Captain Ardie Savea has rejuvenated the team and they will look to build on this momentum against a side who is still missing their skipper Jake Gordon. I am tipping Moana to make it two wins in a row.
Drua vs Crusaders
Tip 2: Drua to win
Reason for the tip: The Drua will be delighted to be back in Fiji for this clash with the Crusaders. The home side have never lost to this opposition in Fiji and will be hoping to continue that trend. They are currently bottom of the log with just a single victory from their six matches with that lone win coming at home. The Crusaders will be looking to bounce back after their loss to Moana in the last round which has seen them drop to third on the standings. They will however be without their Captain Scott Barrett and fellow All Black David Havili.
One of the major positive factors for the Crusaders this season has been their scrum but it remains to be seen if it’s still a major weapon with Tamaiti Williams. If the Drua can at least gain parity in the scrums, they will fancy their chances of causing an upset. The home side will be looking to their star winger Selestino Ravutaumada to show the form of previous seasons as he has struggled with injury. I am backing the Drua to maintain their unbeaten record against the Crusaders on their home soil.
Blues vs Hurricanes
Tip 3: Blues to win
Reason for the tip: Defending champions the Blues will be desperate for a win when they welcome the Hurricanes to Eden Park. The home side have endured a torrid start to the season with just one win from their six matches and sit in the second last position on the log. The good news for the Blues is that Beauden Barrett is back from injury which should add some cohesion to their backline. The Hurricanes seem to have turned their season around with an emphatic 57-12 win over the Waratahs last time out. They will be hoping for more of the same as many of their players are back from injury.
The Blues have looked far from the team that won the title last season with the likes of Mark Telea and Caleb Clarke struggling for form. They will need their star wingers to give them the go forward in attack as they have looked toothless. The Hurricanes will look to take on the Blues at scrum time as they have looked shaky in the front row. The desperation of the home side will see them win this match by a close margin.
Handicap Betting Tips For Today
Toulon vs Saracens: Away team (+17.5)
Reason for tip: French powerhouse welcome Saracens in this Champions Cup quarter final encounter. The home side have won this competition on multiple occasions in their glory days but have endured a dry patch for the last decade. Their task in this match has been made easier by the fact that Saracens have decided to rest their entire contingent of England internationals. This should see a full strength Toulon team romp to victory but I am backing Saracens to cover the +17.5 handicap.
Castres vs Benetton: Away team (+8.5)
Reason for tip: Two teams that are strangers to the Champions Cup knockout stages, Castres and Benetton meet in this encounter that ensures one of them will make the quarter finals for the first time in their history. The visitors will need their pack to at least gain parity so their exciting backline can showcase their skills. The home team have proven to be very difficult to beat in front of their passionate supporters so Benetton will be looking for an early score to silence the fans. Benetton may sneak a win in this encounter but I am backing Benetton to cover the +8.5 handicap.
Western Force vs Highlanders: Home side (-3.5)
Reason for tip: The Western Force play host to the Highlanders in this Super Rugby encounter. The Aussie team has been one of the surprise packages of the competition as they have won some incredible matches especially on their home patch. They have been superbly marshalled around the park by Wallaby halfback duo Nic White and Ben Donaldson. The Highlanders have also looked very sharp and were unlucky to lose some tight encounters by a single score. I am backing the Force to win and cover the -3.5 handicap.

Understanding Rugby Betting
It is crucial that players understand the different types of rugby betting. If a player places a wager on a handicap bet with fully understanding it, he could think they won the bet but instead they lost the bet as they did not understand how it works.
Different types of Rugby bets
Match Winner
The most self-explanatory of bets to take on a rugby match. This is the most common and oldest type of rugby bet in which you select Team A or Team B to win. The odds on this type of bet may be low especially if your team is the favourite.
Draw No Bet
The draw is quite rare in Rugby Union, but it does happen from time to time. If you’re worried about the draw messing up your bet then take a Draw No Bet market. Your bet will be refunded if the match result ends in a draw.
Handicap Betting
The most popular bets on rugby are handicap bets. This is often where some of the best value is to be found. The handicap is an advantage that bookmakers give one team to make the game more balanced. The team given the positive handicap can win, draw or lose the game by less than the handicap to cover the bet and win. The team with the negative handicap must win the match by more than the points set out in the handicap to win their bet.
Total points over/under
The over/under betting market involves predicting whether the total number of points scored in a match will be above or lower than a certain predetermined number. For instance, if you bet on the over/under 50 points market and you bet on under, the combined score of the two teams shouldn’t exceed 50.
First Try Scorer
Rugby fans know the excitement that comes when a player breaks through the defence to score the first try. Betting on the first-try scorer is about predicting which player from either team will cross the try line first. This bet type carries higher odds as it’s challenging to predict, making potential payouts more lucrative.
Anytime Try Scorer
Less specific than the first-try scorer bet, the anytime try scorer wager involves picking a player you believe will score a try at any point during the match. The odds are typically lower than for the first-try scorer but offer a better chance of a payout.
