1X2 Tips for Today

Hurricanes vs Waratahs

Tip 1: Hurricanes to win

Reason for the tip: The Hurricanes return to action after their bye week by welcoming the Waratahs to Wellington. The home side have had a difficult start to the season, winning just two of their five matches. They were hit with a further blow when Harry Godfrey was injured in the last match. His injury sees third choice fly half Riley Hohepa don the ten jersey for this match. The visitors received a massive boost when the new Aussie golden boy Joseph Suaalii was declared for the match and will line up at outside centre.

The Waratahs have enjoyed a sensational start to the season and are currently in 4th spot with four wins from their five matches. Their only defeat has come from their only away match of the season so this will be a litmus test for them. I am backing the Hurricanes to get their season back on track with a win.

Sale Sharks vs Saints

Tip 2: Sale Sharks to win

Reason for the tip: Sale Sharks will be in a confident mood after they brushed aside the Falcons last week while the Saints will be feeling the total opposite after being embarrassed 33-0 by the Tigers at Franklin Gardens. It must rank as one of the darkest days in the club’s great history so a backlash of epic proportions will be expected. The home side are chasing a playoff place and are currently just two points behind the fourth placed Harlequins.

The champions on the other hand have made an awful defence of their title and are almost certainly out of the running for semi-final spots as they are 10 points behind the playoff places with just six matches left. They have left first choice ten Finn Smitha and brought Tom James into the pivot position. I am backing the Sharks for the win as they have been brilliant on their home patch, losing just once all season.

Brumbies vs Highlanders

Tip 3: Brumbies to win

Reason for the tip: A misfiring Brumbies team welcomes the Highlanders to Canberra for this Super Rugby encounter. The home side have enjoyed a stuttering start to their campaign and will be hoping to finally hit their straps against a dangerous Landers team. The visitors have been in pretty decent form but will be without their All Black prop Ethan who is rested for this clash. The Brumbies will be targeting the scrum as the Highlanders struggled in this area in the last match.

The biggest issue facing the Brumbies is their poor start to matches as they have been conceding easy points in the first half. This was their strength in past seasons and if they can get back to fast starts, they have the defensive game to see out matches. I am expecting a big improvement from Noah Lolesio especially in attack which will see the victory go to the home team.

Handicap Betting Tips For Today

Handicap Betting Tips for Today

Ulster vs Stormers: Home team (+3.5)

Reason for tip: Two playoff chasing teams go head to head when Ulster take on the Stormers at the Kingspan Stadium. The home side are currently in ninth position with 33 points, just one position and a single point behind the visitors. It has been a strange season for Ulster who started their campaign with an excellent win over the champions, Glasgow but they have not managed to play with any consistency.

The Stormers have been decimated with injuries this season and as a result have battled to gain any momentum. The return of Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu last week gave them the boost they needed as they overcame the Scarlets in an impressive win. This match is likely to go down to the wire therefore I am tipping Ulster to cover the handicap of +3.5.

Edinburgh vs Dragons: Home team (-18.5)

Reason for tip: Edinburgh will be looking to put their disappointing loss to Benetton last week, behind them when they welcome the Dragons. The home side were denied victory in Treviso after the Italian side scored in the 79th minute to clinch the victory. The Dragons had a similar experience against Ulster last week where they led for the entire game up to the 70th minute, after which the Irish side snatched the victory.

Edinburgh have recalled all their big guns for this match with the likes of flying Scottish wingers in Darcy Graham and Duhan van der Merwe. The home side are chasing a top eight position and are currently in 11th position but crucially they are just two points out of the playoff positions. I am tipping them to win with a bonus point and cover the -18.5 handicap.

Hurricanes vs Waratahs: Home side (-11.5)

Reason for tip: The Hurricanes may have a makeshift backline but their powerhouse front rowers Asafo Aumua and Tyrell Lomax are back so they will have a strong base from which to attack. The home side will fancy their chances of a victory as the Waratahs lost heavily in their only away match of the season. The visitors don’t seem to have the same confidence when they are playing on the road. I am tipping the Hurricanes to win and cover the -11.5 handicap.

Understanding Rugby Betting

It is crucial that players understand the different types of rugby betting. If a player places a wager on a handicap bet with fully understanding it, he could think they won the bet but instead they lost the bet as they did not understand how it works.

Different types of Rugby bets

Match Winner

The most self-explanatory of bets to take on a rugby match. This is the most common and oldest type of rugby bet in which you select Team A or Team B to win. The odds on this type of bet may be low especially if your team is the favourite.

Draw No Bet

The draw is quite rare in Rugby Union, but it does happen from time to time. If you’re worried about the draw messing up your bet then take a Draw No Bet market. Your bet will be refunded if the match result ends in a draw.

Handicap Betting

The most popular bets on rugby are handicap bets. This is often where some of the best value is to be found. The handicap is an advantage that bookmakers give one team to make the game more balanced. The team given the positive handicap can win, draw or lose the game by less than the handicap to cover the bet and win. The team with the negative handicap must win the match by more than the points set out in the handicap to win their bet.

Total points over/under

The over/under betting market involves predicting whether the total number of points scored in a match will be above or lower than a certain predetermined number. For instance, if you bet on the over/under 50 points market and you bet on under, the combined score of the two teams shouldn’t exceed 50.

First Try Scorer

Rugby fans know the excitement that comes when a player breaks through the defence to score the first try. Betting on the first-try scorer is about predicting which player from either team will cross the try line first. This bet type carries higher odds as it’s challenging to predict, making potential payouts more lucrative.

Anytime Try Scorer

Less specific than the first-try scorer bet, the anytime try scorer wager involves picking a player you believe will score a try at any point during the match. The odds are typically lower than for the first-try scorer but offer a better chance of a payout.
