Vaal Selections

Race 1 – 2400m (Maiden Handicap)

A weak maiden handicap to kick off proceedings on Tuesday, and we advise punters to stake low. Most of these horses have moderate form, and we are taking a chance on Angel Of My Heart. She has moderate form and is still looking for a top-three finish after five starts. Based on her rivals’ lack of form and quality in this race, she could prove to be more competitive.

Suggested Bet – Angel Of My Heart EW @ 5/1EW Place

Race 2 – 1600m (MR 66 Handicap)

Another weak handicap race, and we are in the camp of Vava Vegas. The four-year-old has been running against stronger and now takes a drop in class. With a 4kg claim, he should be competitive in this field with just 52.5kg on his back.

Suggested Bet – Vava Vegas EW @ 13.5/1EW Win

Race 3 – 1600m (Maiden Handicap)

Another maiden handicap where weight will determine the winner and placings. Perform has decent form and can be competitive with only 48.5kgs in this field. He has a wide draw to overcome, but if he is switched off at the back, he could mow down the frontrunners in the final straight, and the low weight could be the difference.

Suggested Bet – Perform EW @ 13.5/1

Race 4 – 1000m (Maiden Handicap)

We sound like a broken record, but this is another very weak maiden handicap race. The three horses at the top of the betting boards, who have some form, are all drawn poorly. A wide draw over the 1000m around the bend means they will play catch-up from the start. For that reason, we went looking for a major upset, and we found a big-priced horse with absolutely no form but gets a good draw and only runs with 48kgs. The Real Deal will likely finish closer to the back of the field, but we can’t get hurt backing a horse at this lunatic price, so it’s a very small bet.

Suggested Bet – The Real Deal EW @ 80/1EW Place

Race 5 – 2400m (MR 66 Handicap)

Nuclear Force has some fair form and takes a slight drop in class for this race. It is encouraging that Gavin Lerena still chose to ride the horse, so we expect another decent run and, hopefully, another finish in the money.

Suggested Bet –Nuclear Force EW @ 5.5/1EW Place

Race 6 – 2000m (FM 68 Handicap)

Be Real showed a form return in her last race, where she ran on powerfully in the final 400m for a third-place finish. She will love the 2000m and the long straight run-in. It is encouraging that Piere Strydom has kept faith with the filly, and with his experience as one of the best jockeys in the country, Be Real is a lively contender in this race.

Suggested Bet – Be Real EW @ 5.5/1

Race 7 – 1450m (FM 66 Handicap)

Della’s Sword has been running against males in her last couple of starts and produced some good runs. Now, back against her sex, with a handy weight and draw, she is the one to beat. We like her chances of continuing her decent form and think she should finally earn her second win of her racing career.

Suggested Bet – Della’s Sword EW @ 5/1

Race 8 – 1450m (Novice Handicap)

Golden Pavillion has run into the money in all starts since winning his maiden race five starts ago. Still a three-year-old, there may still be more to come from this progressive gelding. He gets a good draw here and should be competitive.

Suggested Bet – Golden Pavillion EW @ 5/1

Race 9 – 1200m (MR 66 Handicap)

The filly, Count Your Chances has fair form and is down in the trip here. She gets a 4kg claim from the apprentice, and with just 51kgs on her back, she should be competitive and fight the finish. She does get a wide draw to overcome, but if not too far back down the straight, she will be mowing them down with that low weight.

Suggested Bet – Count Your Chances EW @ 7/1
