Turffontein Selections
Race 1 – 1000m (Juvenile Plate)
King Of Kildare was reported to have choked while running his last start and was gelded after that. He is having his first run after gelding, and it won’t be surprising to see him needing this run. However, if he takes to the gelding, he will be a lively value runner.

Moonlight Trader is better than his last two starts. He has run well early in his racing career, and if he can return to that form, he should be a threat here.

Pike Place is still a maiden after 17 runs and is very inconsistent. His last few starts have been good, and he ran a good second in his last race, and should run into the money here.

Rainbow River improved with every race but produced a poor last run, where she overraced in the early stages. If she can settle at the back, from her wide draw, she should run well at the closing stages and be competitive.

The Africa House is the best weighted and should win this race. However, we searched for value and are in the camp of Mizzen Sail. George Handel did not shape up in his last start, a Grade 1 race and was reported not to be striding out. He gets a good draw here, and if he produces anything like his previous form before the Grade 1, he should be competitive in this field.

Race 8 – 1600m (MR 80 Handicap)
A common theme with our pick, Pocket Watch, is that he is a slow starter, but he runs on well at the finish. Over the 1600m, if he does get off to a slow start, his draw of 1 can work to his advantage to still have him in a good position. He always finishes his races well, and if he is in a good position at the final 400m, he should run into the money.
