Turffontein Selections

Race 1 – 1000m (Maiden Plate)

Tiger Storm produced a decent first run and will have made the natural improvement here. The two-year-old colt carries 57kgs and should be competitive in this field. He did race green in his first race, but as mentioned, with the natural improvement, he should run a better race. If he does run in a straight line, I expect him to fight out the finish.

Suggested Bet – Tiger Storm EW @ 5/1 Void-Scratched

Race 2 – 1000m (Maiden Plate)

Gaelic Dancer has fair form and has not finished too far back in her races. She is running around the bend for the first time, but I don’t think that will pose an issue. If she gets away to a clean start and finds a position, she should run into the placings with some luck.

Suggested Bet – Gaelic Dancer EW @ 5/1EW Win

Race 3 – 2000m (Maiden Handicap)

It is a maiden handicap, so weight will play a big part in the finish. Callaburn has decent form and finished in the money in eight out of nine previous races. The only race where he did not run well was on the Poly, so we can ignore that run. He carries a big weight of 59kgs but enjoys racing on the course and should fight out the finish.

Suggested Bet – Callaburn EW @ 6.5/1EW Win

Race 4 – 1800m (FM 64 Handicap)

Damova has dropped steadily in the ratings and is back on a competitive mark. She looks ready to win again and has consistent form in this class. Her last three runs have been solid, and she is one of the leading contenders in this race. I think she is the right one to back and can run into the placings at worst.

Suggested Bet – Damova EW @ 5.55/1

Race 5 – 1600m (MR 66 Handicap)

Circus Lights bounced back to form with an impressive win in his last start. What caught the eye was how he kept finding more in the final stages. His jockey dropped the crop at the 300m, making his win more spectacular. He did not get a big penalty for that win and can follow up against a similar field.

Suggested Bet – Circus Lights EW @ 6/1 Void-Scratched

Race 6 – 1600m (MR 80 Handicap)

I like Captain Of Grit chances in this competitive race. He has been a model of consistency and never runs a bad race. His next win is around the corner, and he meets the right field to notch up his third win. He carries 59kgs thanks to the apprentice jockey taking off 4kgs. With that weight and some luck in running, he should continue his consistent form.

Suggested Bet – Captain Of Grit EW @ 4.55/1

Race 7 – 1450m (FM 64 Handicap)

Favourite Southern Style should win this race, as she beats most of her rivals on weight. However, at 15/10, I am not confident I can tip her at that price. Instead, I have found Ode To The Ocean, who holds Southern Style on weight. Granted, Ode To The Ocean form has dipped since that run, and she carries a hefty mass of 62kgs. Regardless, she showed signs of a form return in her last start, and I would rather back her for an EW bet than Southern Style for a win bet.

Suggested Bet – Ode To The Ocean EW @ 10/1

Race 8 – 1200m (MR 66 Handicap)

I am taking a chance on Fulliautomatix in the lucky last. The five-year-old is returning after a five-month break and may need this run. I am banking on him running fresh and being fit. Before his break, he was in good form and was a speedy horse. With the apprentice claim, he carries 56kgs, and with his quick gate speed, he could lead at the final stretch and hold on for victory. It is a small EW bet as his fitness is a mystery, so stake smartly.

Suggested Bet – Fulliautomatix EW @ 10/1 Void-Scratched
