Greyville Selections

Race 1 – 1200m (Breeders Stakes)

Dantonfromsandton should win the opener, but he is no value at 7/10. Instead, I searched for EW value and found Sun In My Pocket. The two-year-old produced a pleasing debut run and finished a nose behind in second. She carries a low mass of 53.5kgs and can run into the placings with natural improvement.

Suggested Bet – Sun In My Pocket EW @ 10/1EW Place

Race 2 – 1400m (Maiden Plate)

Daring Dash is another short-priced favourite that should win, but the 5/10 on offer is too low to back. Once again, I searched for EW value and found Teriyaki. The three-year-old is a consistent gelding who always runs well. He may not beat the favourite but can come home first from the rest.

Suggested Bet – Teriyaki EW @ 5.5/1EW Place

Race 3 – 1700m (Maiden Plate)

It is a weak maiden field, and I would not be shocked if a double-digit outsider wins. I think an upset is likely here and I am in the camp of Gijima Mfana. The five-year-old is a seasoned maiden runner but has decent form. In this type of field, he could finally shed his maiden tag.

Suggested Bet – Gijima Mfana EW @ 10/1

Race 4 – 1200m (Breeders Stakes)

Russian Doll produced a top run in her last start, and that form line has been good. She gets the best draw and loves the 1200m sprint. From two starts over this distance, she has two wins. I expect another solid run from the filly, and she should finish in the money.

Suggested Bet – Russian Doll EW @ 5.5/1

Race 5 – 1900m (Breeders Stakes)

Pirate Prince is the class horse in this race and can get back to winning ways. He ran well in a listed event last time out and can follow up here. He carries a hefty weight of 60kgs, but with some luck in running, he should finish in the money.

Suggested Bet – Pirate Prince EW @ 5/1

Race 6 – 1600m (Breeders Stakes)

Joshua Hotsnake is an ultra-consistent gelding who has run into the money all of his last 14 starts. He never seems to run a bad race and always finished close to the winner. He carries 54kgs, and he can finish in the placings from a pole draw.

Suggested Bet – Joshua Hotsnake EW @ 7/1

Race 7 – 1600m (Breeders Mile Stakes)

It is the featured race of the day and the only event on the Turf track. Mrs Geriatrix is the highest-rated horse in the field and is a worthy favourite. She should win and is a banker for many Pick 6’s. At 15/10, she is a solid single-bet option, but I would rather back an EW bet for three places as insurance. For that reason, Laguna Verde entered my calculations. The four-year-old has fair form and can run well in KZN. If his travels went well, and with some luck in running, he should run in the top three.

Suggested Bet – Laguna Verde EW @ 6.5/1

Race 8 – 1200m (MR 66 Handicap)

Knight Warrior is a four-time course and distance winner and a hard knocker. The seven-year-old still has a zest for racing at his ripe age and always gives his best. He has fair form, and if he gets some luck in running, he should give us a run for our money.

Suggested Bet – Knight Warrior EW @ 7/1

Race 9 – 1400m (MR 74 Handicap)

Racing ends with a competitive 1400m MR 74, so stake accordingly. Imaginable has consistent form and placed in all three course and distance runs. He carries 58kgs thanks to jockey Rachel Venniker’s 1.5kg claim, and she should be competitive off that weight. I like his chances to go close and, hopefully, give us a winner to end the day.

Suggested Bet – Imaginable EW @ 6/1EW Win
