The league was predominantly over last week but one match remained on their schedule this past weekend as Fiorentina and Atalanta had both been involved in a European Final.
While Atalanta won the Europa League, Fiorentina lost to Olympiacos in the UEFA Europa Conference League final; the last match of the season ending in the favour of the latter. So what were the major talking points this season?
Champions-Inter Milan
The third time has been the charm for Simone Inzaghi. In his third season in charge of Inter, the ex-Lazio coach finally got his hands on a long-overdue Scudetto. The Nerazzurri hit the ground running from the get-go and never lost their stranglehold on their 20th Serie A title.
Unfathomably, only relegation boys Sassuolo bested Inter during their championship-winning campaign. Inzaghi’s men avoided defeat in all 36 remaining league outings en route to leaving runners-up Milan a whopping 19 points behind in one of the most formidable title runs in recent history.
Inter did not only top the point charts. They dominated every piece of statistic. Inzaghi’s free-flowing frontline netted a league-high 89 goals, at least 13 more than any other side. But Inter’s all-out-attack approach didn’t take its toll on the team’s defensive duties. With only 22 goals conceded, they were the best defensive unit in the division.

European Football
Serie A will have five teams play in the Champions League this season; the pick of the bunch being Bologna who will play in the tournament for the first time in club history.
Bologna is joined in the competition by the Milan clubs who occupied the first two positions, Juventus and Atalanta who finished fourth and still won the Europa League.
Atalanta’s heroics last season mean that the entire league will have 8 teams in European competitions next season with Roma and Lazio set to feature in the Europa League and Fiorentina making it to the Conference League where they will be hoping to go a step better after being on the losing end in this year’s finals.
Relegation
Frosinone, Sassuolo and Salernitana were the teams to wave goodbye to the league with the latter only managing 17 points the entire season.
Managerial Changes
Starting with Jose Mourinho’s dismissal at Roma in January, the 2023/24 Serie A campaign has unfolded as a season of farewells, marked by managerial departures, player retirements, and impending departures.
Milan and Stefano Pioli took separate ways after five years. In addition to the Scudetto-wining manager, San Siro paid tribute to Simon Kjaer and Olivier Giroud after a 3-3 final-day draw against Salernitana.
Elsewhere, Juventus sacked underachieving boss Massimiliano Allegri less than 48 hours after claiming the Coppa Italia trophy. After inspiring Bologna to a history-defining top-four finish, Thiago Motta will replace Allegri in Turin.
Top Scorers
Lautaro Martinez once again claimed the Golden Boot owing to the 24 goals he scored for Inter Milan. His closest challenger, Dusan Vlahovic, only managed 16 goals for Juventus with the departing Olivier Giroud and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen completing the podium finish with 15 goals each.
